There’s more evidence that the shortage of NHS dentists in Somerset is worsening. New figures have shown that last year 165 children aged under eleven were admitted to hospital to have teeth removed due to a lack of NHS dentists. The British Dental Association claims having teeth removed is now the most common reason for children being admitted to hospital.

Revised plans have been submitted to build fifty new homes near Ilminster. Developers, Galion Ltd, applied to develop land north of Broadway Hill in March 2021. Following a public consultation, the number of homes to be built has been reduced from fifty to forty-nine. Five of the homes will be sold as first homes at a discounted price and twelve made available for social renting.

Demand for surplus food from supermarkets is growing according to a food waste volunteer in Chilthorne Domer near Yeovil. Keith Brownhill collects food items from Tesco in Yeovil and hands them out through an app called Olio. Keith says the demand the service is overwhelming but that he tries to be fair to everyone.

Tickets have gone on sale for a visit by The John Lawson Circus to Chard. The family-run circus will be in Jocelyn Park, performing two shows each day, beginning Thursday, July 14th to Sunday, July 17th.

In cricket three Somerset players have been named in the England Lions squad to take on South Africa in two fifty-over matches in Taunton later this month. Tom Abell will captain the side, with Tom Banton and Will Smeed also included in the thirteen-strong group.
