A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a fight in Chard in which another man sustained serious injuries. Police say the two men were involved in an altercation in the Boden Street car park at around 4 pm on Thursday, October 10th. One of the men was taken to hospital for treatment. The other man is believed to have left the area in a white Volkswagen car and was later arrested. Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the altercation or has dashcam or CCTV footage of the Boden Street car park at the time of the incident. If you can help you’re asked to call the non-emergency number 101.

Plans to build 750 new homes in Mudford near Yeovil have been boosted with a grant of half a million pounds from Somerset Council. The Council is expected to give final approval for the Up Mudford development at a meeting later this month, with the £500,000 grant being used to build the first pedestrian and cycle access points to the new site. The development, which has generated strong opposition, will include a community hall, a 65-bed care home, retail outlets, industrial units and an extension to the Primrose Lane Primary School.

Nearly thirty NHS buildings in Somerset have been identified as ‘not fit for purpose’. A new infrastructure strategy produced by Somerset’s NHS integrated care board contains a list of the buildings. The ICB says the buildings will need to be upgraded or replaced within the next few years to meet the growing and changing needs of Somerset’s population. Buildings on the list include Yeovil Dental Access Centre on Preston Road and Chard Community Hospital in Chard.

A Somerset charity that works with vulnerable young people has been presented with a cheque for £50,000 by trainees at Leonardo Helicopters in Yeovil. Promise Works mentors vulnerable young people with the aim of boosting their self-esteem and future prospects. The donation was the result of two years of intensive fundraising by the trainees belonging to the Apprentices and Graduates scheme at Leonardo’s.

Tickets for next year’s Glastonbury Festival will go on sale next month. Coach tickets will be available from November 14th while general admission tickets go on sale November 17th.
