Somerton and Glastonbury MP, Sarah Dyke, says the government needs to get an urgent grip on the worsening dentistry situation in her constituency. She claims people in Somerton and Glastonbury are being forced into extracting their own teeth because no NHS dentists are available locally to treat them.

Somerset Council has confirmed that it’s going ahead with a project for Herne View Primary School in Ilminster, which is currently split over two sites, to expand its Ditton Street site and no longer operate from Silver Street. As part of the £2 million scheme, the council will also refurbish a former adult education building in Ditton Street, where the current nursery will relocate and expand.

Bridgwater Town Council has criticised plans by the Somerset Council to charge for Sunday parking. The Council says the move will standardise charges at all public car parks across the county. Bridgwater Town Council says charging for Sunday parking will dissuade people from shopping in the town. Bridgwater Town councillor, Tim Manders, says with household budgets under great pressure, charging for Sunday parking in the town should continue to be free.

People in Ilminster have adopted a new neighbourhood plan for the town. It follows a poll held in August in which 83 per cent of residents voted in favour of adopting the plan. Somerset Council has now formally adopted the Neighbourhood Plan into its planning policy, meaning it can be used to determine future applications for housing and commercial space in the town until 2036.

Somerset Council’s Libraries service has launched its Winter Coat Exchange scheme for a third year. The scheme gives a warm coat to anyone in need of warm clothing.
