Public Health at Somerset Council is blaming a rise in measles cases on a drop in the number of children getting the MMR vaccination. No confirmed measles cases were reported in Somerset in 2023 but ten cases have been confirmed so far this year.

Police have produced an online gallery to try and find the owners of hundreds of items stolen in burglaries in Somerset. They include a figurine of a spotted dog, a vintage projector, a pair of antlers, and electrical items and jewellery. All the items can be viewed on the Avon and Somerset police website.

A closure order on a Yeovil property has been extended following reports of anti-social behaviour. The flat on Eastland Road was first placed under a closure order in August after being linked to Class A drug dealing. The new order will remain in force for three months.

The auction of a boxing glove in Chard claimed to have been worn by Cassius Clay or Muhammad Ali as he was later called, when he fought Henry Cooper in 1963, has been halted. The left-hand glove, made in Glastonbury, was meant to be sold last Wednesday. But auctioneers, Stuart Bell Auctions of Chard say the sale has been postponed after new evidence came to light concerning to the gloves authenticity.

A Somerset couple have been banned from owning animals. Jordan Allen was banned for 10 years and given a suspended jail sentence, and Paisley Farthing a 5-year ban, for leaving their dog’s injuries untreated. The case was bought by the RSPCA.

A new interim Town Clerk has been appointed at Chard Town Council. He’s David Bell, who lives locally and takes on the role following previous experience as a chief officer in local government.
