Speaking in Somerset, the new head of the National Farmers Union has equated food security to national security. Around 50 per cent of all food consumed in the UK is produced in the UK. Tom Bradshaw, the new NFU President, is calling on all political parties to prioritise the issue of food security.
The front entrance of the Langport Arms on Cheapside in Langport has been damaged after a car crashed into it at the weekend. No one was seriously injured but a stone pillar and part of the porch entrance collapsed in the collision that happened at around 8 pm on Saturday. The pub says the front entrance will remain closed for some time and that access is through a side door.
A Somerset woman is raising awareness about living with Crohn's Disease. Scarlett Luxe was diagnosed at 15 years old and said she never thought her life would be the same again. In the UK, over half a million individuals are living with Crohn's Disease.
Police are investigating the theft of a cattle trailer from near Corscombe. It was taken from a farm at Halstock Leigh in the early hours of last Friday. Police say several trailers have been stolen across the Halstock area and that this latest theft is likely to be linked to similar thefts in the South Somerset area.
