Campaigners have failed in their bid to save the former Nautilus Works on Reckleford in Yeovil from being knocked down. The red-brick building, regarded as the starting point of the Westland Aircraft Company in 1916, is currently being used as a bus depot by the owners, First Bus. Campaigners had wanted the façade kept and incorporated into any future development on the site. First Bus says the building will be demolished early in the New Year, with the site completely cleared for selling with development potential.

The Chief Medical Officer for NHS Somerset, Doctor Bernie Marden, says the plans to change stroke services in the county are about getting patients to a hospital with the highest level of specialist care. Under the plans, an emergency stroke unit would open at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and Yeovil Hospital would retain its stroke recovery beds.
