Campaigners have failed in their bid to stop the demolition of the former Nautilus Works in Yeovil. Avon and Somerset Police say three-and-a-half-thousand motorists were caught speeding during National Road Safety Week held last week. Chard Town Council has announced that a new block of stone with the message Welcome to Chard is to be placed at the entrance to the town...and more.

Campaigners have failed in their bid to save the former Nautilus Works on Reckleford in Yeovil from being knocked down. The red-brick building, regarded as the starting point of the Westland Aircraft Company in 1916, is currently being used as a bus depot by the owners, First Bus. Campaigners had wanted the façade kept and incorporated into any future development on the site. First Bus says the building will be demolished early in the New Year, with the site completely cleared for selling with development potential.

Avon and Somerset Police say three-and-a-half-thousand motorists were caught speeding during National Road Safety Week held last week. Five uninsured vehicles were also seized.

The Chief Medical Officer for NHS Somerset, Doctor Bernie Marden, says the plans to change stroke services in the county are about getting patients to a hospital with the highest level of specialist care. Under the plans, an emergency stroke unit would open at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and Yeovil Hospital would retain its stroke recovery beds.

St Bartholomew’s Primary School in Crewkerne has been presented with a Bronze Award by Christian Aid for its global citizenship initiatives. The award is in recognition of projects run by pupils and staff that included creating bee gardens and sending water purifying kits to Morocco.

Chard Town Council has announced that a new block of stone with the message Welcome to Chard is to be placed at the entrance to the town. The Council says the stone will be positioned on the corner of Silver Street and Fore Street but hasn’t said when it will be installed.

Yeovil Town are out of the FA Cup after losing 3-0 away to League Two side Wrexham yesterday.
