A woman has been cut free from her car after a four-vehicle collision in Montacute. The crash, which happened late Friday night, left her trapped, with fire crews using cutting gear to release her. Fire Control sent two engines – one from Yeovil and another from Martock – with paramedics also in attendance.

Also this weekend, fire crews from Yeovil, Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury were called to a property in Lovington just after 7 am on Sunday. The teams successfully extinguished a fire that began in a wall cavity above a wood burner.

Meanwhile, the Devon and Somerset crews have been praised for their bravery, following more than 600 wildfires last summer. The count is at a four-year high, and whilst the bravery and professionalism of the firefighters were being recognised, a spokesperson from the service has reminded us that many wildfires are avoidable and are often started with the likes of discarded cigarettes and barbecues, or simply fires that aren’t properly extinguished.

More new homes are set to be built in Martock, following approval from Somerset Council. The application, alongside numerous others in South Somerset, was delayed whilst developers were required to put in place measures to mitigate further damage to the Somerset Levels and Moors. The new approved development will extend Lyndhurst Grove to the north of the town.

Avon & Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage to come forward after two burglaries in Castle Cary last month. A quantity of cash was stolen after a forced entry to a property in Coombe Close in the early hours of Monday, 15th December, with three males gaining entry to a property in Victoria Road the following afternoon. They are described as white and believed to be aged in their late teens or early 20s. If you have any information, you’re encouraged to call 101, quoting the reference 5225351953 for the Coombe Close incident or 5225353271 for the Victoria Road incident.

And the amber cold weather alert remains in place across Yeovil and South Somerset until 10 am on Tuesday, meaning Somerset Council’s Severe Weather Emergency Provision is active in the county with the aim to ensure rough sleepers can access emergency accommodation.
