An Ilminster family is celebrating after winning one million pounds on the National Lottery; a payout they almost missed out on. Mark Jefferson set up a syndicate with his wife and four children last July to mark his birthday. Their numbers matched all six numbers in the June 24th draw. But after the draw, Mark ignored notifications from the National Lottery telling him he’d won. It was only when he answered a phone call from the Lottery nine days later that he discovered they'd won a million.

Police have released a picture of a man they want to speak to in connection with suspected frauds in Somerset. Avon and Somerset Police say the man used the same method of operating in three Facebook sales in April. The offences have been linked, and a fraud investigation is continuing. The picture can be viewed on the Avon and Somerset Police website.

Somerset Council has opened a tendering process to find a main contractor for the £15 million upgrade of Yeovil’s Octagon theatre. The venue closed four years ago for a larger redevelopment, which was paused because of financial pressures. A revised £15 million scheme was agreed earlier this year. The project’s expected to include £10 million from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and £3.75 million from Yeovil Town Council.

Somerset Council is spending seven million pounds on changes to improve children's services. The scheme's part of a wider plan to make savings of £135m by the end of the decade.
