Somerset Council has defended spending nineteen million pounds on consultants over the past three years. Lib Dem Council Leader, Councillor Bill Revans, says external consultants are used to support improvements and deliver savings where specialist expertise is needed.

A new clinic specialising in sexual health has opened in Yeovil. The centre, based at Summerlands on Preston Road, brings together a full range of sexual and reproductive health services under one roof. NHS Somerset says the new facility will make access to care simpler and more convenient.

Twenty white-tailed eagles are set to be released on Exmoor this summer as part of a national reintroduction scheme. The birds will be released over the next three years after government approval for the latest phase of the project. However, some farmers have raised concerns that the birds of prey could pose a threat to sheep.

The Goodland Gardens Bridge in Taunton will not be replaced after councillors reversed an earlier decision. The bridge was removed in 2014 after being declared unsafe. Taunton Town Council says the estimated four-hundred-and-fifty-thousand-pound cost of building a replacement is simply unaffordable.

RNAS Yeovilton has been in the television spotlight this week after featuring on Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr. The naval air station appeared on the programme as designers took on the challenge of transforming trainee accommodation at the base.
