Revellers have been arriving in Somerset over the last 24 hours for the Glastonbury Festival. Attendees will spend the weekend watching artists like Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Shania Twain. Many festival-goers made their way through Castle Cary railway station yesterday, and the Police had to close the A371 between Castle Cary and the A303 for a period, following a serious collision.
A local tech business has been heralded as ‘Best Rural Enterprise In The UK’ at the Countryside Alliance Awards, held at the House of Lords yesterday. Wessex Internet was initially nominated by its customers, with the company then topping the public vote in the southwest region – and then selected the overall national winner by a panel of judges. Dubbed ‘the rural Oscars’, the awards recognise businesses that go the extra mile within their communities and support the rural economy. Somerset Police have taken part in an operation that has seized 150 thousand pounds worth of drugs and seen more than 60 people arrested. The operation covered the whole of the South West from the week beginning 10th June and the Somerset officers made 6 arrests and recovered weapons, along with 31 thousand pounds of cash.
