People using the Yeovil bus station won't have a waiting room or toilets after this weekend. The facilities will close on March 31st after Somerset Council said it could no longer afford to run them. Yeovil Town Council has also decided not to take over running the waiting room and toilets in the bus station.
A rugby player who punched an opponent during a game in Sherborne has been ordered to pay his victim £4,000 in compensation. Jack Richards was playing for Wellington RFC against Sherborne RFC when he struck Jamie Davidson from behind following a scrum. Mr Davidson had to be treated in hospital for two fractures to his right eye socket and cheekbone. Richards had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to inflicting grievous bodily harm and was appearing at Bournemouth Crown Court for sentencing.
Ilminster Town Council has been told the town doesn’t qualify for having a new banking hub. The Council hoped that when Ilminster’s last remaining bank, Lloyds, closes in August it would be replaced with a new banking hub. Link, who administer the locations of banking hubs, has written to the Town Council to say that Ilminster doesn’t qualify for a banking hub due to fewer than 7,000 people living within a kilometre of the town centre and fewer than 70 retail businesses within the same radius.
