    Bird flu has been detected at a nature reserve in Somerset, resulting in the closure of part of it. The RSPB has confirmed that several Canada Geese and Mute Swans have died at Ham Wall, near Glastonbury. 

    St Margaret’s Hospice in Somerset is calling for the hospice sector to be given more central funding. It follows a report from the National Audit Office saying income at hospices has fallen by ten per cent over the past two years. 

    The project to upgrade the A303 between Sparkford and Ilchester has won a top award. The scheme in which a three-and-a-half-mile stretch of the A303 was converted to dual carriageway was given the Showcase Award at the South West Engineering Awards 2025.

    People experiencing domestic abuse in Somerset can now access confidential online chat support for longer, following an extension to the online service’s opening hours. Somerset Domestic Abuse Service has extended its live chat hours to 10 am to 4 pm every day to make it easier for anyone affected by domestic abuse to access help.

    Part of the route used by the former Somerset and Dorset Railway has reopened as a walking and cycling route. The route, which takes in the Ham Wood viaduct, connects Shepton Mallet with neighbouring villages.
