A Yeovil house has been boarded up for three months due to anti-social behaviour. Officers from Avon and Somerset Police, alongside the town’s neighbourhood policing teams have been working with residents to bring to an end months of issues.

Yeovil Magistrates’ Court granted a full closure order of the property on Ermine street at a hearing last week. The court heard that the address was linked to class A drug dealing and use. There were also reports of shouting and screaming from the property, with disturbances and violence spilling into public areas. The court heard that other residents found the occupant and their visitors intimidating and that weapons were stored at the property. Drug debris including used needles was also left in the street.

A Chard woman is celebrating after becoming a finalist at the Stevie Awards for Women In Business. Debbie Gilbert is nominated in the ‘Women Helping Women’ award and is hoping for a win at the awards ceremony in November. The awards honour female executives, entrepreneurs, employees and companies – and Debbie has been recognised for her national business programme, marketing support and networking company which has helped 4,000 women since 2011.

Meanwhile, CLOKS, Chard’s Local Kids Society For Music and Drama has received £1,500 from Tesco’s Stronger Starts scheme. The theatre group provides an affordable way for young people to sing, act, dance and get involved with all aspects of theatre – and is run by volunteers. The extra funding comes from the blue token scheme where shoppers at Tesco are able to select from a collection of local causes to support.

And a farm shop started by two schoolgirls from Somerset has its first permanent home after help from a kick-start scheme. The Little Farm Shed was created by Laurel and Rosie from Shepton Mallet, as a way to earn spending money for the Glastonbury festival. Now, with the support of some adults, they've taken on a permanent lease. A business scheme has helped them trade on the high street rent-free for nine months.
