Somerset residents are being urged to get a flu jab as cases of flu continue to rise. NHS Somerset says anyone eligible, especially those under 65 with long-term health conditions, should be vaccinated.

Seven horse saddles have been stolen in a break-in at a riding school in Queen Camel. The equipment was taken from the Ridgeview Riding School in the early hours of last Saturday. Anyone with information that will help the police is asked to please call the non-emergency number 101.

The Salvation Army in Somerset is appealing for donations of sleeping bags to give to people sleeping rough on local streets. Latest figures from Somerset Council show that around 130 people can be found sleeping rough in the County every night.

An Ilminster Care Home has been rated ‘overall good’ by the Care Quality Commission. It follows an inspection of Hazelwell Lodge on Station Road in Ilminster, which specialises in caring for people living with dementia.

A consultation has opened into how people affected by domestic abuse in Somerset should be supported. Somerset Council has published a new Domestic Abuse Strategy, outlining how services across the county collaborate to prevent abuse, and is seeking comments on it. The consultation can be found on the Somerset Council website.

The A359 through Queen Camel is shut to traffic today until 4 pm, allowing resurfacing work to be carried out. The road will be closed again tomorrow between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm for the completion of the work.

Donations of children’s toys are needed for this year’s Chard Christmas Present Appeal. Organisers say donations of toys, books, and clothes can be dropped off at the Forefront Community Centre, South Chard Church and Chard Community Hub.
