Work is to start soon on a £60 million upgrade of the campus at Yeovil College. This follows the college's successful bid to the government’s Further Education Capital Transformation Fund. The work, which will take three years to complete, will see the Kingston Building, Bridge Block, and Sports Hall demolished and replaced with new buildings.
The Leader of Somerset Council says staff cuts will have a detrimental impact on services. Councillor Bill Revans comments follow a further 450 job cuts at Somerset Council. He's asking the government to step in with a rescue plan for local government. Meanwhile, Somerset Council says it doesn't have enough money to investigate fly tipping properly, despite receiving hundreds of reports about illegal fly tipping every year. The Council admits that over the past couple of years in some parts of the county, it hasn't taken anyone to court for fly tipping.
Chard High Street will be closed to traffic this Thursday evening between 5:30 and 9:00. This is to allow for a trick-or-treat event in the town centre, with around 20 shops staying open late and a pumpkin carving competition taking place outside the Guildhall.
