The Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police, Sarah Crew, has offered an apology to the LGBT+ community. Ms Crew says she wanted to say sorry for what she calls " the over-policing and under-protection people suffered in the past". The force was responding to an appeal for an apology by the Peter Tatchell Foundation.
The Environment Agency has continued to use temporary pumps on the Somerset Levels to minimise the flood risk. The pumps are currently being used at Currymoor and at Saltmoor. With more rain forecast the EA says the pumps will stay in use for several more days yet.
A new mobile post office service will begin operating in parts of South Somerset from next week. Odcombe, Tintinhull, Chilthorne Domer, and Melbury Osmond, which lost their post offices in recent years, will have the service restored, albeit from a mobile unit. Post office services will also start running again at the village shop in North Cadbury, Buckhorn Weston, Charlton Horethorne, and Corton Denham.
