Yeovil MP Adam Dance says closing the maternity unit at Yeovil Hospital is a disaster for the town. The birthing and special baby care unit at Yeovil Hospital was closed on Monday due to concerns about safety and staff shortages. Expectant mothers have been told to go to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, County Hospital in Dorchester or Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton to give birth. Speaking during a demonstration against the closure held outside Yeovil Hospital, Mr Dance called on NHS managers to order the immediate re-opening of the maternity unit.

A Somerset transport company that supplies supermarkets says it’s being held to ransom by cyber hackers. Peter Green Transport in Evercreech delivers foodstuff to Tesco, Sainsbury, and Aldi. The Black Farmer, Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, uses Peter Green Transport to distribute his sausages. He says the attack is having a significant impact on his business.

NHS Somerset says 70% of people in the highest-risk groups have yet to get their COVID-19 spring booster jab. Anyone who’s immunosuppressed, undergoing chemotherapy or cancer treatments, organ transplant recipients, or has a condition like HIV is at significantly higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19. The spring vaccine programme runs until Tuesday, June 17th.

A 4-bedroom house could be built on land used as a beer garden at The Podymore Inn at Yeovilton. Plans submitted to Somerset Council show the house on the eastern side of the pub, with the children’s play area and beer garden, moved to a new location.
