A local man has been charged with possessing an air weapon following an incident in Yeovil town centre. Appearing at Yeovil Magistrates Court, Alistair Armistead, of Penn Hill, in Yeovil, was also charged with criminal damage and affray in connection with a smashed bank window. Armistead was remanded in custody to next appear at Taunton Crown Court on Monday, 24th March.

Organisers of ‘Let's Buy the Amulet’ in Shepton Mallet say they’re disappointed after funding, allocated by the previous Conservative government to buy the theatre, was removed by the Labour government. Together with four other venues in Somerset – including the Cheese and Grain in Frome – the group has been told that it will no longer get a share of five million pounds of grant funding.

Three brothers from Somerset have handed £4,000 to the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of their granddad, who died from the disease. Tom, James, Charlie and their dad Richard raised the money running a lap at all first-class county cricket grounds last summer.

Entries are now open for this year’s Minster Miles 10K fun run. Organisers are hoping to exceed last year’s number of runners of 270 when the race takes place on Sunday 6th April.
