The Yeovil College campus is to be revitalised, after its redevelopment plans were given the go ahead. A number of college buildings, including the familiar Kingston building, will be demolished, followed by three new constructions – a five-storey main teaching block, a new sports centre and a construction skills centre. The proposed buildings are expected to be generally in line with the heights of the current buildings and a new through-road will allow college buses to drop-off inside college grounds, rather than stopping on Mudford Road.

A historic property on Chard's Fore Street is set to be repaired and restored, after the Somerset Building Preservation Trust stepped in to conserve the old courthouse building. Their aim is to connect the building and community with ‘centuries of history in the centre of Chard’ and secure the building for future generations.

Following Somerset Council’s warnings of a cash shortage to run Adult and Children’s services in the county, an expert in public policy has said that the options are stark. Tony Travers from the London School of Economics says the decision to take money out of reserves is a necessary move. Somerset Council is one of several councils asking for more central funding to protect front line services.

And Crewkerne’s annual Charter Fair returns this weekend, with the three day event kicking off with Edward Danter’s Funfair on Friday afternoon, followed by the traditional Sunday street market. The fair dates back to Saxon times and appears in the Domesday Book.
