Teachers in Somerset belonging to the National Education Union are due to strike again tomorrow. It'll be the sixth time this year that teachers in Somerset have walked out in their long-running dispute over pay. The government is offering teachers a one-off payment of £1,000 and a pay rise of 4.3% but the NEU has rejected the offer.
Six million pounds is being spent upgrading a water treatment plant at Hardington Mandeville. Wessex Water says once the plant has been fitted with new equipment, discharges of untreated water from the sewer system following heavy storms will be minimised, together with the removal of chemicals from wastewater.
The A3088 Cartgate Link Road in Yeovil will be shut to traffic overnight all next week. Somerset Council says from Monday the road will close at 7 pm and re-open at 7 am the following morning for the drainage system to be cleaned.
