Yeovil and South Somerset drivers are being warned about potential disruption over the next few weeks. Overnight resurfacing started on Preston Road in Yeovil last night and continues until Friday. Highways teams are also resurfacing sections of both North Street in Langport and the A372 Somerton Road. Preparations also begin in Langport this week with the process getting underway in Huish Episcopi on 24th July.
A Purtington kayaker is celebrating a new world record after circumnavigating Britain in 40 days to raise awareness of diabetes. Dougal Glaisher took on the 2,000-mile challenge, whilst managing his own Type-1 diabetes, to fundraise for the charity Action4Diabetes, which helps young people with the condition in South East Asia.
Somerset Council has been awarded over £300,000 to take a lead role in developing a plan to protect nature in the county. The Local Nature Recovery Strategy will be lead by both the council and the Somerset Local Nature Partnership and is part of a £14m national government fund to help restore wildlife-rich habitats.
A Chard woman has received the highest Rotary Club award for thirty years of work, helping an orphanage in Romania. Dawn Fletcher and her husband Andy have been leading lights in ‘Project Romania’, a charity based in the town, helping to provide everything from bread to education and medical care. Dawn was presented with the “Paul Harris Fellow Award” by Chard Rotary.
