Last week was the wettest seven-day period in Somerset for twelve years, according to the Environment Agency. 200 mm of rain has fallen in Somerset since the start of the year, with 100 mm falling last week alone. As a precaution, the EA has installed extra pumps on the Somerset Levels.

NHS Somerset says it’s working towards making access to dental care fairer for all. The government has pledged to overhaul the NHS dental contract, which has been blamed for many dentists leaving the health service, but has not set out a timetable for implementing a new one.

A scout leader in Somerset has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to Young People. Geoff Pinney, President of West Hatch Scout Group, has been honoured by the King for his 70 years of service to the scouting movement.

A pilot scheme has been launched in Somerset offering children the chance to be vaccinated at home rather than at a GP surgery. Somerset Council says the scheme is aimed at families who face barriers in accessing GP appointments to get their children vaccinated.

A student at Holyrood Academy in Chard has represented Somerset in the Springfield regional Future Chef Final. Lucy Lawrence achieved second place in the competition, with judges saying they were impressed with her “skill, creativity, and composure under pressure.” Springboard Future Chef is a school-based programme that supports young people aiming for a career in hospitality.
