The fire service is treating as deliberate a blaze that damaged two vehicles in Chaffcombe near Chard. Crews were called to Chaffcombe Road at around four o’clock yesterday morning. An investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the fire.

A road in Hardington Mandeville is set to re-open today after being closed for three days. Pig Hill has been shut to traffic since Wednesday while Wessex Water carried out essential works in the area.

Friends, family and colleagues of Royal Navy officer Amy Gilmore are preparing to take on a 630-mile coastal challenge in her memory. Commander Gilmore, who was based at RNAS Yeovilton, had hoped to walk the South West Coast Path to raise money for charity, but died last July after battling cancer. Now, a relay team of supporters will complete the route on her behalf. The challenge begins at Shell Bay tomorrow and finishes a week later on the seafront at Minehead.

Somerset Council has agreed a new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy aimed at tackling inequality and promoting inclusion across the county. Priorities over the next four years include improving access to services for people who are digitally excluded, tackling discrimination in schools, and strengthening support for disabled employees.

Yeovil Town will begin their pre-season campaign with a friendly away to Melksham Town. The match takes place at Oakfield Stadium on Saturday the 11th of July, with kick-off at three o’clock.
