A Yeovil man has pleaded guilty to threatening and abusive behaviour towards two female paramedics. Magistrates in Yeovil heard that 35-year-old Robert Young, of Lyde Road, threatened the paramedics with a hammer, leaving them feeling terrified when they attended his address following a 999 call. The case has been adjourned until June 16th for a pre-sentence report. Young has been released on unconditional bail.

Nine thousand motorists have been caught speeding on the A303 at Buckland St Mary, with one driver recorded travelling at 91 miles an hour. The figures have been revealed following a Freedom of Information request to Avon and Somerset Police.

Police in Chard are appealing for the public’s help following ongoing reports of break-ins and thefts in the Henson Park area. Officers are asking residents to report any suspicious behaviour, thefts, break-ins or damage, and to submit CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage — even if it seems minor or too late. Anyone who can help is asked to call 101.

Jollyes, the pet store chain, is opening a new branch in Yeovil. The store will open on Friday, June 19th at the Houndstone Retail Park. Job opportunities are currently being advertised on the company’s website.

And a nail technician in Crewkerne has been named a finalist at the UK Hair and Beauty Awards 2026. Paulina Madejska, of Tip Top Nails Studio, has been shortlisted in the Best New Talent category. The awards celebrate excellence and innovation across the UK’s hair and beauty industry.
